The Story of Magda, an elderly Holocaust survivor...
Magda was born in Hungary in 1929. She and her family were sent to Auschwitz and from there to a labor camp in Nurenberg. She used her talent to make dolls in order to survive. The following is a brief account of her experience. "In the camp I started collecting rags and wires, and made a doll for myself. As a child my parents could never afford to buy me toys so I used to cut out paper dolls. The first doll I made in the camp was a girl. When the woman came to bring me food, I begged her to give me an extra piece of bread and in return I would make a doll for her. She gave me extra food and I made the doll. Then I started getting orders from the Kapos. In less than a month I had a small factory going in my room and filled orders from the S.S. I saved my sister and four other women when I requested that they work with me in the doll factory." In all the years since the war, Magna never made a doll. Thirty eight years after the war she visited Hungary and came home very depressed. She started collecting rags and wires again and started making dolls. Please pray for her and others like her who are still having to cope with memories of the past. In addition to the Holocaust Survivors like Magda, there are many elderly people in Israel who need help.
